What is The Rogers RO4835IND™ LOPRO® Laminate?

RO4835INDTM LoPro® thermoset laminates are specially designed for 60-81 GHz short range (<30m) industrial radar applications, where excellent electrical performance and cost-efficiency are equally important. These laminates are designed with a focus on delivering outstanding electrical performance while maintaining cost-efficiency, making them an ideal choice for industries that require reliable and high-performance materials without incurring excessive costs.

RO4835IND LoPro laminates have a low insertion loss at 60 GHz of 2.13dB/inch to meet customers critical radar coverage requirement. Meanwhile, expanded weave fiber provides excellent Dk uniformity and Rogers’ tight quality control provides low Dk variation from lot to lot. RO4835IND LoPro laminates are compatible with standard epoxy/glass (FR-4) processes and have a higher fabrication yield rate compared to conventional PTFE-based laminates. Both low material and fabrication cost make RO4835IND LoPro laminates a cost-effective solution for industrial radar.

RO4835IND LoPro laminate’s low water absorption results in little change in RF performance through environmental exposure. Its robust peel strength after thermal processes and superior dimensional stability brings excellent interconnection stability.

Furthermore, these laminates provide exceptional interconnection stability, which is another key factor when selecting PCB materials. Interconnection stability ensures that the connections between components remain secure and functional even under harsh operating conditions. This stability is particularly important in radar systems where signal integrity and reliability are paramount.

RO4835IND LoPro laminates are suitable for both cap layer on multilayer FR-4 PCB design or inner layers for multi-layer design. RO4835IND LoPro laminates are compatible with Speed WaveTM 300P Prepreg, 2929 Bondply, RO4450TTM prepreg, RO4450FTM prepreg and FR-4 prepreg. These laminates have the UL 94V-0 flame retardant rating and are lead free solder process compatible.

Applications of The Rogers RO4835IND™ LOPRO® Laminate

RO4835IND™ LoPro® finds extensive use across various high-frequency applications:

60 to 81 GHz Industrial Radar

The stable dielectric properties and low loss tangent make it ideal for radar applications, where signal clarity and minimal attenuation are critical. Used in automotive radar, factory automation, and collision avoidance systems, this laminate supports high-resolution sensing with minimal signal loss.

5G Infrastructure

Its low-loss characteristics enhance the efficiency of base stations, beamforming antennas, and mmWave communication modules. Supports next-generation wireless technologies requiring low-loss materials for efficient signal transmission.

Manufacturing Advantages of Rogers RO4835IND™ LOPRO® Laminate

Compared to PTFE-based laminates, RO4835IND™ LoPro® offers significant advantages in terms of processability and cost-effectiveness:

Rigid Resin to Minimize Scratching, Pits, and Contamination

The reinforced thermoset resin minimizes surface defects such as scratches, pits, and contamination during handling and processing, improving yield rates. Ensures that the material maintains its high-quality standards throughout the production process, contributing to consistent performance.

Robust Peel Strength Through Thermal Exposure

Retains adhesion strength even after multiple thermal cycles (e.g., lead free reflow), reducing delamination risks and enhancing long-term reliability. Provides long-term reliability under thermal stress, reducing the risk of delamination and other failures.

Reduced Overall Cost of PCB Manufacturing versus PTFE Laminate Options

Unlike PTFE laminates, RO4835IND™ LoPro® laminates do not require specialized processing, reducing material and fabrication costs. Allows manufacturers to achieve significant cost savings without sacrificing quality or performance, facilitating broader adoption of advanced radar technologies.

Compatibility with Standard FR-4 Processes

Works seamlessly with FR-4 manufacturing workflows, including drilling, plating, and solder masking, eliminating the need for specialized equipment. Allows manufacturers to use conventional PCB fabrication techniques, further simplifying production and reducing lead times.
