Isola 185HR-pcb

What is the Isola 185HR PCB Material ?

The PCB Material is a high-performance, proprietary resin system designed for advanced applications. This material boasts features such as CAF resistance and UV blocking capabilities. Additionally, it exhibits excellent dielectric and thermal properties, with its manufacturing leveraging Isola’s patented technology reinforced by electric-grade glass fabric.

This laminate comprises multifunctional epoxy resin with E-glass fabric reinforcement. Also, this epoxy resin system offers better thermal performance and low CTE value. At the same time, the processability of FR-4 is maintained. It has a glass transition temperature of 180 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for multilayer printed wiring board applications that demand maximum thermal reliability and performance.

Properties of the Isola 185HR PCB Material

Very high glass transition temperature (Tg)

The Tg value of Isola 185HR is 180 degrees Celsius, the Dk is 4.01 and Df is 0.0200. Also, Isola 185HR  features great thermal performance due to it’s high Tg value.

High Decomposition temperature (Td)

The decomposition temperature is 340 degrees Celsius at 5% weight loss. This helps to ensure high thermal performance. Also, this value indicates that the material can barely decompose chemically.

Glass fabric availability

This PCB laminate features standard E-glass. Also, the laminate features a square weave electronic glass reinforcement.

Exceptional thermal conductivity

The thermal conductivity of Isola 185HR is 0.4 W/m/K,and this measures the rate of heat transfer in a PCB material. The thermal conductivity of Isola 185HR PCB material contributes to it’s performance.

Low Z-axis CTE

The CTE value of Isola 185HR at z-axis is 40 ppm/ºC. With this property, that Isola 185HR is a thermally stable material for PCB applications.

CAF resistant

This is another great property of Isola 185HR material,This PCB laminate is CAF resistant. Conductive  anodic filament (CAF) causes failures in PCB’s, and the PCB material is resistant to CAF and prevents failure in circuit board. The risk of CAF occurs when a metallic filament is formed from an electrochemical migration process.

UV Blocking and AOI Fluorescence

High throughput and accuracy during PCB fabrication and assembly. The material system is also laser fluorescing and UV blocking for maximum compatibility with automated optical inspection systems (AOI), optical positioning systems and photoimagable soldermask imaging.

Lead-free assembly compatible

Materials meet lead-free assembly requirements and meet RoHS standards. The Isola 185HR PCB material works fine with lead-free laminate materials. This makes them much safer when using them. This also means that you will make use of the PCB material without having to worry about environmental pollution or hazardous substances.

What are the Applications of the Isola 185HR PCB Material ?

Below are some of the typical marked applications of the PCB Material. These include  to Automotive & Transportation , Medical, Industrial & Instrumentation , Aerospace & Defense , Consumer Electronics , Networking & Communication Systems.

Automotive & Transportation

The Isola 185HR PCB Material is useful in the automotive and transportation filed. These include areas like transmission sensors, digital displays, ECU and ECL control modules, GPS systems, transmission sensors, power relays, on board radars, vehicle sensors and more.

Medical

The Isola 185HR PCB Material could play a significant role in peacemakers, heart-related applications, cardiovascular field, and more. Also, they play a significant role in applications for medical imaging such as MRIs.

Industrial & Instrumentation

The Isola 185HR is a specialized material widely utilized in the fields of industrial applications and instrumentation. This high-performance laminate is known for its excellent electrical insulation properties, making it suitable for various electronic components and devices.

Aerospace & Defense

The Isola 185HR PCB Material can play a huge role in aerospace and defense. This is because this material has what it takes to tolerate harsh environments, temperatures, pressure, and extreme stress. Some areas where this material is useful in the aerospace and defense field include helicopters, systems for radio communication, drones, radar installations, and more.

Consumer Electronics

Another aspect where the PCB Material is applicable is consumer electronics. This material allows the routing of power and signals between these consumer electronics and devices. This is possible due to the different components playing different roles.

Networking & Communication

Also, the Isola 185HR PCB Material is necessary for the networking and communication industry. This material is very important in the printed circuit boards used in manufacturing these electronic communication equipment.

Copper Foils Used in Isola 185HR PCB Material

There are two different types of copper foil used in the Isola 185HR material. They include:

HTE Grade 3

HTE refers to High Elongation Electrodeposited copper, this type of copper foil is IPC-4562 Grade 3,and the exterior face of the foil is semi-matt.Also,it features anti tarnish treatment, this reduces oxidation and corrosion during storage, and the matt side gets Zn/Cr treatment. Therefore, this enhances adhesion to  prepreg.

Reverse Treat Foil (RTF)

This type of copper foil requires treating the electrodeposited copper surface, and the treatment used is a rough coating. Also, this treatment boosts the base foil adhesion to Isola 185HR dielectric. The reverse treat foil has a rough surface area ratio between the range of 1.0 and 1.2 here. However, this foil features dismal peel strength. Moreover it is prone to delamination.

What is the Thermal Performance of the Isola 185HR PCB Material ?

The PCB material exhibits a glass transition temperature of 180 degrees Celsius, indicating a high Tg value. This characteristic allows the material to attain glassy-state properties such as rigidity, stiffness, and brittleness upon cooling. The thermal performance of the PCB material is closely related to both its glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature.

Also, the Isola 185HR PCB material has a decomposition temperature of 340 degrees Celsius. This underscores the robustness of the material, as it requires a significant thermal threshold of 340 degrees for chemical decomposition.

The PCB material is a reliable and high performance material for PCB fabrication. Also, this PCB material features great properties that enhance the functionality of pcb boards.  QFPCB offers the best services when it comes to the Isola 185HR PCB Material.
